Bride Travels from Northern Ireland to Find Her Wedding Gown!

2016-05-29 17:17:27

After a fruitless search in Northern Ireland, Chantelle decide to hop on a plane from Belfast City Airport with her mum, mother in law to be, her cousin and her daughter and take the short flight across to Exeter in the hope to find her dream dress for her wedding next June.

Chantelle's first appointment was in our Exeter store, she tried numerous styles from Ronald Joyce, Victoria Jane, Pronovias and Nicole Spose to name but a few, she narrowed it down to three but as Chantelle had made the trip from Lurgan, Northern Ireland she was not going to leave any dress unturned and made the trip to Plymouth just to make sure that the perfect dress wasn't hiding there!

Today, Chantelle tried stunning wedding gowns from Maggie Sottero, Sottero and Midgley and Mori Lee in our Plymouth store!  After much deliberating, she said Yes To The Dress....but you will just have to wait until next June to hear which wedding gown stole her heart!

Our Exeter Manager Dressed Her Dreams and Finally said 'I DO'!

2016-05-20 14:24:00

On 30th April 2016 Stacy Williams finally said 'I Do' to her handsome groom, Christian Chambers!

After two years of planning their dreaming wedding Stacy and Christian married in the imposing St Michael & Angels Exeter.  Stacy chose a navy theme with a whisper of pink which complimented Christians military uniform perfectly.  With little accents dotted throughout the church and venue it certainly added to a spectacular wedding day which was enjoyed by all!

After trying copious amounts of wedding dresses, Stacy firstly said 'I Do' to her fabulous Mori Lee Ashleigh wedding gown which is selcted in all ivory.  Having worked in bridal for 14 years, Stacy has a keen eye for detail so we knew that she would have to add her own little twist to her chosen wedding gown!  She choose Mori Lee diamante encrusted straps which were stitched in to her dress, then she fell in love with the delicate cornflower belt detail from Love It So much, finished off with her lace trimmed veil and twinkling tiara she was all set for the Big Day!

5 Wedding Dress Shapes to Suit Your Body

2016-05-20 10:11:19

5 dresses to suit your body shape

Finding the perfect dress to flatter your figure is no mean feat. Here are five dresses from Prudence Gowns which offer an indication of the shapes and styles to go for.

With so many dress options at your disposal, it is no wonder that brides find settling on the perfect dress so stressful. Here to help, Prudence Gowns features five of our dresses, with advice on styles to suit your shape.

If you are bottom heavy, then your small bust and waist should be highlighted. Princess dresses, like this Ronald JoyceEiliyah’ design serves to accentuate your daintiest assets by nipping in at the waist and featuring lace detailing to really enhance your delicacy on top.

Characterised by broad shoulders and lithe limbs, the athletic body shape should steer clear of fussy gowns and opt for something that balances your proportions. A slim figure can look great in a fishtail like this Stella YorkBianca’ dress, which shows off toned arms with a sweetheart neckline and emphasises a thin waist, providing flare at the hem to settle body ratios.

Killer curves should be celebrated and a figure-hugging dress such as this Maggie SotteroEmma’ creation is simple and stunning to let your shape do all the talking. Cap sleeves ensure balance above the neckline, while an elegant embellished train offers interest.

A top heavy frame will usually want to add weight to their bottom and thighs. As such, the SinceritySaoirse’ dress serves to offer volume from the waist down, while slimming arms and bust with demure detailing at the neckline.

If you have a small bust and bottom, with little definition at the waist, then a dress that offers a feminine silhouette will do just the trick. The fun and flirty House of Mooshki ‘Claire’ dress is a real showstopper with a frothy tulle skirt that won’t swamp you. A duck egg blue bow belt and lace bodice will add the illusion of curves without detracting from your petite frame.

Appointment Information +

How many people can I bring with me?

We ask you to limit your guests to 3 people - this means every bottom will have a seat during your appointment. As much as we all love opinions, over the years we have found that 3 is just right without causing the bride too much confusion!

For brides with a true entourage we ask you to stick to weekday appointment where you can truly spread out - often with the store to yourself!

Little Cherubs

Now, we are the first to want a cuddle and many of our consultants are kiddied up themselves…However, at weekends we have a strict no under 12 policy - it hurts us because they can be gorgeous but we are just too busy to accommodate your kiddies.

During the week we will welcome them with open arms and we will try to help you keep them amused as much as possible but please keep in mind we are a bridal boutique and not a “safe” zone for playing in.  We also ask for calmness and respect for others, there may be other brides and their families in the shop, who have the right to enjoy a very special emotional moment without interruption.

How long are the appointments?

We try to give you as long as we can - we will always allow 1 hour and 30 minutes for our time with you to really focus on your Bridal consultation, however, during the week we may be able to extend this a little when we are really getting into our stride!

We do a variety of other appointment options as well,
Bridal Retry - for when you are popping back with a dress in your head you cannot stop thinking about - this is 1 hour long
Trying your Own Gown - appointments to try on your own gown once it arrives are 1 hour long, you are more than welcome to try on any accessories that you have purchased during this appointment.
Bridesmaids - these run in 1 hour slots where you have all our bridesmaid dresses to choose from.

What do I need to bring to my appointment?

Just yourself and a smile!
We provide all the dresses (obviously) but along with that we offer the shoes, veil etc and will help fit the gowns to you.
If you have a special pair of shoes - please feel free to bring those along.
We do suggest white or nude underwear, unless you have some fabulous pants with super heroes on to show off!
Strapless bras can help but not essential.
We request no fake tan as our dresses need to be kept in pristine condition for future brides to try on.

Can I take photographs?

Ok tough one……

Unfortunately, due to copyrights our designers are not fond of their dresses being snapped, therefore, we have tablets in store on which we can take photos of your favourites but we do ask that you keep in mind - you may be a size 10 in a size 16 gown that has been in store for 6 months - this will not shimmer and fit like your new order gown nor will a tablet capture the true look you will have. Try therefore to remember the feeling you have in a gown and not rely on images.

Tips for getting the most from your appointment

Try to arrive no earlier than 5 minutes to your appointment as we can get a little crowded but equally we only have a finite amount of time so please do try to understand if you arrive late we cannot always extend your appointment time to accommodate

Ask loads of questions - we are here to help - use us!

The more information we can get from you and the more questions you ask us the more helpful and advisory we can be when it comes to offering you gowns you may not have thought of - 9 times out of 10 it’s a gown you would never look at twice on the rail that just works when it’s on!

Don’t expect to fall in love straight away!

This sounds an odd thing to say but not every bride has that moment when she bursts into tears and cries that she found THE ONE!

More often than not you have tried on so many dresses that you have it down to 1 or 2 you like and it’s your favourite from that selection

We do love a good cry in store and if a mum or nan starts us off we will sob with the best of them but if you are a more logical non emotional person you may just be more practical about your appointment and not blub at the right moment

Don’t worry though, it doesn’t mean that you’re not doing it right it just means you are not prone to public displays of emotion and that’s ok too!
